Homosassa / Chassahowitzka Real Estate

Nestled in a sparsely populated, heavily wooded area between US Highway 19 and the Gulf of Mexico, Homosassa, Florida offers some of the most pristine waterways on the Gulf Coast. This small town is packed with big appeal. The beautiful spring fed waters are home to a number of manatees, dolphin, turtles, and various species of fish. The primarily untouched surroundings attract a diverse array of birds and other wildlife to the area, making Homosassa a nature lover’s dream!

The Homosassa Arts, Crafts and Seafood festival, which is held in the fall, has drawn in crowds from all over Florida for the past 36 years. Homosassa is also host to one of the state’s best wildlife parks, “The Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park”. Here you can come visit our local celebrity, Lucifer (or “Lu” as we like to call him). He’s a hippopotamus that has been a fixture at the park since 1964. When the Florida Park Service purchased this park, they wanted to make it for native Florida species only and were going to find him a new home, but our community rallied and Lu was granted special Florida citizenship, allowing him to stay. The park also offers several shows daily, including a Manatee program, an Alligator/Hippopotamus program, and a Wildlife encounters program.

In addition to the wonderful wildlife, Homosassa also offers great dining opportunities, many of them right on the water. So come to this fabulous little area and make one of our watering holes your watering hole.

Chassahowitzka is an area that is about 31,000 acres comprised mainly of saltwater creeks and freshwater tributaries which is commonly known as Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. A very small portion of that is not designated as wilderness, and there are some homes available. Make mother nature your next door neighbor by living in this sensational area.
